Health in Mind
South City Families on Wheels
Deriving from the national healthy living agenda, SEHLI engages local residents and agencies in the planning and delivery of services to address mental health and wellbeing in a holistic way. Service areas currently include physical activity; food and health; complementary therapies.
SEHLI is currently based in Gracemount and works throughout the South Edinburgh areas of Moredun, Gilmerton, Burdiehouse, Inch and Gracemount. The team consists of 11 staff and 12 volunteers.
Our partners
SEHLI works with a variety of voluntary and statutory services such as:
* NHS services - primary & secondary care
* Social Work Department & Family Centres
* Schools & Nurseries - & Active Schools
* Housing Department
* Children 1st
* Drug & Alcohol Projects
Volunteers who are recruited locally are seen as active stakeholders, as are service users and residents of South Edinburgh.
We help
The adult population living in the South Edinburgh area is our target audience for universal activities.
Some activities target people who may present with specific needs such as:
* parenting issues
* physical health problems
* mental health problems
* community isolation
SEHLI offers activities for adults only and for parents along with their children.
What difference do we make
The cycling project in SEHLI offers parents an opportunity to engage in teaching their children bike skills, whilst gaining or refining cycling skills themselves in a fun and supportive environment.
This work is carried out in partnership with nurseries who host the sessions and identify the families for involvement.
It is hoped the project will encourage and enable families to cycle more together in their community environment.
What is said about us
"I haven't been on a bike since I was a child and I've forgotten how much fun it is!"
"I didn't think I'd be able to get back on a bike but I did."
"I picked up some tips to help my child learn how to balance."
