North Glasgow College
Community Cycling in North Glasgow
Specifically the College’s stated mission is to provide ‘quality learning opportunities for all’.
North Glasgow College operates locally within two Community Planning Partnership areas, i.e. Maryhill Kelvin and Canal and Springburn and part of Glasgow North East.
The college is committed to widening access to those from disengaged, disadvantaged and under represented groups. Our work in Learning Centres and outreach locations are examples of our commitment and assurance to the local community. The college delivers numerous courses in outreach community based learning centres across the north Glasgow area.
The college delivers a number of full and part time courses related to Sport, Health and Fitness. Subject areas include Coaching, Outdoor Education and Fitness Health and Exercise.

We help
The target group for this project are local people living in the two North Glasgow Community Planning Partnership areas, this will include:
- Local youth and community groups
- Local people living within the two North Glasgow Community Planning Partnership Areas
North Glasgow College already has well established partnerships in place with numerous community based organisations and groups. Local organisations will refer potential participants to the project.
In addition, we would be able to include cycling activities as team building activities within the programmes we are currently delivering, therefore increasing the number of options available for individuals to take part in an active lifestyle.
What difference do we make
Aims – This project aims to provide opportunities for individuals and groups to take part in cycling and therefore increase wellbeing and gain self confidence.
The project aims to deliver a number of activities during 2010 in partnership with local groups.
The project therefore will aim to bring cycling into everyday activities of individuals taking part in community activities. We would like to add cycling activities to the list of other outdoor education activities we offer to community groups.
Objectives
- To provide access to cycling based activities
- To encourage participation from local people and groups who do not currently participate in cycling
- To promote cycling as a way of improving health and fitness
- To arrange a number of cycling trips to rural locations
- To provide opportunities to participate in accredited cycle training
What is said about us
North Glasgow College is continually gaining feedback from participants through end of course questionnaires, discussions as part of the activities and evaluation sessions. The College distributes community course questionnaires to all participants to gain feedback and suggestions. This information can therefore influence future provision. Project activities will begin shortly therefore we would anticipate gaining feedback later in the year.
